2023: Survey indicates Osinbajo’s win in APC primaries

The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN and a leading presidential aspirant under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), has been projected as the winner of the APC presidential primary election slated for June 6 to 8, 2022.

The projection was drawn from a survey conducted by Democracy Research Institute (DRI), a Georgia based non-governmental and non-profit Public Policy Think Tank which was released on Monday, June 6, 2022.

The projected candidate scores drawn from the responses from approximately 2,000 eligible elected National delegates are Professor Yemi Osinbajo (857), Bola Tinubu (571), Rotimi Amaechi (329), Kayode Fayemi (124), Godswill Akpabio (40), Yahaya Bello (22), Dave Umahi (20), Ahmed Lawan (1).

The study, according to the graphical representation of the survey, used the Stratified Sampling Technique to achieve a distribution of responses that reflect the spread of delegates across Nigeria. Approximately 2,000 delegates were polled.

On Survey Instrument

The team used a structured questionnaire that was divided into three sections, Demographic, Candidate Preference and Push and pull factors that bias delegate preferences

On Data Collection

The approach adopted in collecting the required information for this survey was the Computer Assisted Telephone interviewing (CAT) approach. The interviewers

were trained in on-call etiquette, data capturing and data fluency. The questionnaire was administered in English, Pidgin English, Yoruba, Hausa and bo. The data collection exercise spanned from May 26th to June 4th 2022.
