Akeredolu tests negative for COVID-19, appoints Oluwatuyi new SSG as Abegunde resigns

Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has tested negative for COVID-19, six days after he was confirmed positive for the highly infectious virus.

Aleredolu, who had since been in self-isolation in the state, was told of his negative status on Monday, disclosed this in a weekly press briefing at the state house in Ondo.

He said the doctors confirmed his negative status after running the test twice.

Meanwhile, following the resignation of Ifedayo Abegunde as the Secretary to the Ondo State Government, Governor Akeredolu, on Monday announced the appointment of Temitayo Oluwatuyi as the new SSG in the state.

Akeredolu disclosed this via his verified Twitter handle saying the appointment is with immediate effect.

“Today, I announced the appointment of Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi “Tukana” as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to resume immediately following the resignation of Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde,” Akeredolu tweeted.

His former appointee, Abegunde, resigned earlier on Monday, tendering and directing his resignation letter to Akeredolu, who, at that time was still self-isolating.

Abegunde’s letter entitled “Letter of Resignation Effective 6th July 2020” read: “I, Hon. Ifedayo Sunday Abegunde, the Secretary to the State Government of Ondo State hereby tender my letter of resignation.

“I want to thank Mr Governor for giving me the opportunity to serve the Government and people of Ondo State.

“Again, my family and I wish Mr Governor quick recovery.”
