The duo of President Muhammadu Buhari and his supportive second-in-command, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, have rekindled Nigerians’ hope as the country celebrated her 62nd Independence Day anniversary on Saturday, October 1, 2022.

Both leaders, including other dignitaries, had gathered at the Eagle Square in Abuja for the 62nd Independence Day Anniversary parade, where messages of goodwill for the people of Nigeria were also delivered.

Joined by their wives, both the First Lady, Aisha Buhari and the wife of the Vice President, Dolapo Osinbajo, also attended the ceremony.

Also present were former President Goodluck Jonathan, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Senate President Ahmad Lawan; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The service chiefs and several diplomats were also in attendance as well as several ministers and Kashim Shettima, the running mate to the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.

Buhari, accompanied by the Commander of the Guards Brigade, inspected the parade, which would be his last in eight years since he assumed office in May 2015.

The President had earlier in his last Independence Day broadcast message said he would leave a legacy of free and fair elections as Nigerians go to the polls next year to elect another set of political office holders for four years.

Also, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, earlier in the day via his social media account, wishing Nigerians a Happy Independence Day anniversary had prayed that the “labour of our heroes past won’t end in vain.”
