The deputy governor of Edo and running mate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Edo gubernatorial election, Philip Shaibu, has lost the election in Etsako West, his local government area.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcing the results at 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, said, the PDP polled 17,959 votes while the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 26,140 votes.

The former governor of Edo State and former chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, who is also from Etsako West, delivered victory for his party.

Both Obaseki and Shaibu won the local government when they contested under the APC during the 2016 election, but had both defected to the PDP following the disqualification of Obaseki from seeking a second term on the APC platform.
