Ekiti commissioner regains freedom after 8 days in kidnappers’ den

The abducted cabinet member in Ekiti State, Folorunso Olabode, has regained freedom after spending eight days in kidnappers’ den.

Olabode was abducted by gunmen on April 26 on his way from Ado-Ekiti to his hometown in Iye-Ekiti, Ilejemeje local government area of the state.

A councilor in Ilejemeje LGA, Olatunji Omotosho, who accompanied him was not lucky at the time of the attack, as he was shot dead.

But the state government who announced his release did not state if any ransom was paid before his abductors released him.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Muyiwa Olumilua, in a statement said, Olabode was released a few hours ago “unhurt” and has since rejoined his family.

“Government is grateful for the concern shown by members of the public during his period of incarceration,” he said.

“Similarly, Ekiti State Government appreciates efforts by the security agencies in securing his release, as well as ensuring the security of lives and property within the State.

“Government also expresses sympathy with the family of the late Councillor, Mr Olatunji Omotosho, who was killed by the gunmen during the abduction, on April 26th, 2020.

“The State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who is billed to receive Chief Olabode later today, affirms the State Government’s efforts to do everything possible to rid the State of criminal elements.

“He urges the citizens of the State to remain vigilant, and report any suspicious movements and activities to the appropriate law enforcement agencies, or call the State emergency lines.”
