FG orders immediate prosecution of Nigerians violating Twitter ban

The Federal Government has ordered the immediate prosecution of Nigerians violating the operations of the micro-blogging site, Twitter, in the country.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, who made this known on Saturday, has asked the Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF) to swing into action.

The directive given was for the immediate prosecution of offenders of the Federal Government ban on Twitter operations in Nigeria.

A statement signed by Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, a spokesperson for
Malami, said the AGF had directed the DPPF at the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, to swing into action and commence in earnest the process of prosecution of violators of the Federal Government De-activation of opetations of Twitter in Nigeria.

He said, Malami directed the DPPF to liase with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, National Communication Communication (NCC) and other relevant government agencies to ensure the speedy prosecution of offenders without any further delay.

The decision of the Federal Government to suspend Twitter came on Friday, two days after a post by President Muhammadu Buhari on the 1967 civil war was deleted by the microblogging site.
