Gunmen kill Nigerian monarch, Olufon of Ifon, in Ondo State, abduct two

Unknown gunmen have assassinated a prominent Nigerian traditional ruler in Ondo State, Olufon of Ifon, Oba Israel Adeusi.

His domain, Ifon, is located in Ose Local Government Area (LGA) of Ondo State, in Nigeria’s South-West.

Before his assailants trailed and killed him, as gathered, Oba Adeusi, returning from Akure, the Ondo State capital, to his town, after he had attended a meeting with other traditional rulers in the state.

The sad incident which had thrown the entire Ondo State into a sombre mood, occurred Thursday, at Elegbeka community along the Ifon-Benin Highway, it was at this spot the monarch was said to have been shot dead.

Oba Adeusi was said to have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, but he eventually gave up the ghost.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Tee Leo-Ikoro, had confirmed the incident, which he described as “sad and very unfortunate,” adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, had directed all police divisions in the affected areas to swing into action.

He also informed that the killers anducted two persons in the convoy after shooting the monarch after he was shot.

Leo-Ikoro said the police personnel would work with other security agencies to arrest Adeusi killers and secure the release of the kidnapped victims.
