How Sunday Shodipe, escapee Ibadan serial killer was rearrested by police

More details have emerged on how the Police Command in Oyo State rearrested Sunday Shogunle, an alleged serial killer who recently escaped from its custody in Ibadan.

The spokesman of the Oyo State Police Command, Gbenga Fadeyi, had earlier confirmed the rearrest of Shodipe, on Sunday.

The police had on Thursday promised a reward of N500,000 to anyone who could provide tangible information leading to the rearrest of Shodipe.

However, as gathered by The Daily Leaks, the 19-year-old suspect, accused of killing no fewer than six people in Akinyele Local Govermment Area, was rearrested in the home of his grandmother in Ojoo area of Ibadan.

Shodipe had been linked to the murder of Barakat Bello,18, Azeezat Shomuyiwa, 29, among others in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.

It will be recalled that 18-year-old Barakat had been killed in her parents’ home at Akinyele Local Government Area of the ancient city of Ibadan, on the Monday evening of June 1, 2020.

Barakat, was a student of the Federal College of Animal and Production Technology Moore Plantation, Apata, in Ibadan, where she was undertaking the National Diploma (ND) programme in Science Laboratory Technology (Labtech).

On the fateful day, she was said to have been at home alone, as her parents had been out and her sister too was away to the Arabic School.

It was in the evening, she had gone to the bathroom, bathing, when she heard a troubling noise close to their house, and subsequently, she left the bathroom built separately from their house to check what was the issue.

It was while walking towards their house it was said she realised robbers (as gathered then) had broken into the compound, and as they saw her approaching, before she could flee, the robbers had attacked and strangled her, then took turn to rape her after which she was stabbed to death.

It was her junior sister who later returned home from the Arabic School, that was said to have found the dead body of her sister, Barakat, on the floor soaked in her own blood, screamed for help.

Also, Shomuyiwa Azeezat, a 29-year-old lady, had been murdered in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital

Azeezat was said to have been killed in the early hours of Friday, the following week Barakat was killed at her rented apartment in the Aba Eko area, Akinyele Local Government.

Azeezat, as of the time she was gruesomely murdered was said to be seven-month pregnant.

She was said to have been smashed with a stone by her killers.

Before her death, Azeezat was a postgraduate student at the University of Ibadan.
