Identity of company turning COVID-19 hub in Oyo revealed, infected staff now 63

The identity of a company located in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where 63 of its staff members were infected by coronavirus has been revealed.

Governor Seyi Makinde, had, on Saturday, May 16, alerted the people of Oyo State on the need to be watchful and check their health status after 30 members of staff in the same organisation tested positive for coronavirus in Ibadan.

The governor, who refused to disclosed the name of the company then, but only gave its location to be within the Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of the state, said the organisation had been shut and would be contaminated to avoid further spread of the virus.

But within 72 hours of the first reported cases, the number of staff who tested positive for COVID-19 rose to 63.

However, the name of the company has now been revealed to be iSON Xperiences, a telecommunications customer service provider.

iSON Xperiences prides itself as a multinational company, specialising in “proactive customer engagement and customer experience management, partnering with leading brands to optimize their customer experience, revenue generation and business process management across the enterprise.”

According to the company, its “dedicated and talented workforce spread across many Sub-Saharan African countries, along with UAE and India,” and “are redefining the way people connect.”

Makinde, addressing the situation in Ibadan, on Wednesday, said, health workers “are tracing all known contacts of the people who have tested positive.”

In a follow up to the Saturday discovery, eight other COVID-19 positive case from the same organisation were detected on Sunday, May 17, while another 19 positive cases were recorded on Monday, May 18.

On Wednesday, Makinde, giving an update said, another six members of staff from the same organisation tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, May 19, making the total figure to be 63

“The company remains shut and will be decontaminated. The Emergency Operations Centre has continued intensive contact tracing to identify persons of interest linked to members of staff in the company,” Makinde said.

Oyo State as a whole has recorded a total of 143 coronavirus cases, while 47 people, including the governor who earlier tested positive, have fully recovered and discharged, while four people have died.
