Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has declared his intention to contest for the office of the President in 2023.

The Vice President made his intention known Monday morning, ending months of speculations and uncertainties surrounding his political future.

Nigerians had waited to hear the Vice President speak on his plans to succeed his boss in 2023.

Before his public declaration, the Vice President, who had earlier invited the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors to Iftar (the breaking of the Muslim fast), Sunday evening at his official residence, Akinola Aguda House, in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

As reliably gathered from a top Aso Villa source, he had informed the APC governors of his decision to run for President in 2023 under the APC banner.

The meeting, which was exclusive to only the invited governors and some of their aides, was well attended, especially those from the North and other geopolitical zones in the country.

Sources close to the office of the Vice President hinted that Osinbajo had used the occasion to notify the governors of his presidential ambition, being his final consultation on the 2023 presidential run.

With his latest move, the coast is now clear that Osinbajo, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State, is set to battle the APC presidential ticket with his former principal, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the former Lagos State governor under whom who served.

Tinubu had made known his intention to contest for the country’s number one office in Aso Rock, during a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari in his office earlier in the year.

In a video published across all his social media channels at 7:00 am, Monday morning, the Vice President, Prof Osinbajo, declared his intention to run for the 2023 Presidency, resting all speculations on the subject matter.
