The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, has formally declared his intention to run for the country’s president in 2023.

This is coming after months of speculations and growing rumours about him secretly nursing a presidential ambition.

Tinubu, after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday, spoke with State House correspondents, where he informed them about his discussions with the President.

During a brief interview session with State House correspondents, Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, said it has been his age-long ambition to be Nigeria’s president, which he now hopes to actualise.

“I have informed the President about my ambition but I have not informed Nigerians yet, I am still consulting,” Tinubu said.

His formal opening up on his presidential ambition has now placed Tinubu among the frontrunners to succeed President Buhari whose tenure as president ends on May 29, 2023.
