Multiple explosions that rattled the Kara bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway early Sunday morning, forced many vehicles to a standstill and travellers left stranded.

The explosion was caused by two petrol-laden tankers that went up in flames after collision, as the accident later affected another tanker and a trailer on the same road.

The men of the Federal Fire Service and other rescuers later arrived at the scene to put the incident under control, while the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials were on hand controlling traffic which affected movement inward Berger.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, said operatives of his agency are on ground to speed up the evacuation process.

Speaking on the situation, the FRSC Sector Commander, Lagos State Command, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said his men have swung into action to extinguish the fire, while he advised motorists to seek alternative routes.

“The FRSC admonishes motorists who have reasons to use the road to seek an alternative, for now, to allow the personnel of Fire Service on ground to extinguish the fire.

“Those moving out of Lagos this morning can ply Victoria Island by Ajah to Ijebu Ode to continue their journey.

“The Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to the Sagamu Interchange is another alternative that motorists can use at the moment,” Ogungbemide said in a statement.
