Why people with despicable agenda are after Osinbajo — Laolu Akande

Osinbajo

Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been a target of people with despicable agenda because of his office next to the president’s, his commitment to nation building and for his special understanding on how to connect with the people, Nigerians have been told.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, who disclosed this on Monday, however, said, his principal remained focused and committed to President Muhammadu Buhari’s resolve to deliver his electoral promises to the people.

Akande, who spoke Monday night during an Intagram Live Chat programme with Dele Momodu, the Ovation Magazine’s publisher, said, it is ridiculous and incredible some of the types of stories that have been written against his boss, by people who are intimidated by his rising profile.

Describing his boss as “a very active vice president that understands how to connect with the people, Akande said, “what I have found out is that with his “rising profile itself, in a political atmosphere that is extremely murky, I think those who have all kinds of unscrupulous ideas, people with despicable agenda have reasons to try to smear the person that is holding that office.”

Yet, Akande said VP Osinbajo was not nursing 2023 ambition, and would not be distracted by “false” reports and “lies” circulating lately in the media.

Rather, Akande said his boss, remained focused on supporting President Buhari in delivering the goals of his government.

The rising profile of VP Osinbajo, he said was the target of people with despicable agenda who are trying to smear his person with ridiculous stories.

Akande also addressed issues bothering on the recent allegations levelled against VP Osinbajo by a United States blogger, Jackson Ude, who accused him of receiving N4bn from the suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu,

He said: “It is ridiculous and incredible some of the types of stories that are out there. What I have found out is that being the vice president and being a very active vice president that understands how to connect with the people, that rising profile itself, in a political atmosphere that is extremely murky, I think those who have all kinds of unscrupulous ideas, people with despicable agenda have reasons to try to smear the person that is holding that office.”

Meanwhile, VP Osinbajo had denied the accusation levelled against him by the said blogger and a former presidential aide, Ude, an allegation he attributed to Magu’s confession when he appeared before the Justice Ayo Salami-led Presidential Panel investigating his activities at the EFCC.

Osinbajo, had also called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, asking him to probe Ude, who, he said was fond of smearing his person via his online medium, Pointblank News, with a view to prosecuting him for criminal defamation.

Besides, Ude had also alleged that the vice president’s daughter, Kiki, owned a property on Durban Street, Wuse 2, Abuja which he said worth N800 million.

Also, Kiki had dismissed the allegation, calling it a false accusation, while the property owner, Ayuba Musa, had also dismissed the allegation as a false claim, saying Kiki has been his tenant in past years.
