Meta Platforms Incorporated, under the leadership of former UK Deputy Prime Minister and Meta\u2019s President of Global Affairs, Sir Nick Clegg, has announced plans to introduce a new feature on its Instagram app, allowing Nigerian creators to monetize their content.<\/p>\n

The feature, slated for release in June 2024, aims to empower indigenous content creators to earn income through the platform.<\/p>\n

This revelation came during a visit by the Meta delegation to President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, March 21, 2024.<\/p>\n

Clegg expressed Meta’s commitment to deepening partnerships with Nigeria, stating, “We have a lot to do with Nigeria to deepen partnerships.”<\/p>\n

In response, President Tinubu highlighted his administration’s focus on positioning Nigeria as a leader in information and communications technology (ICT) in Africa. He emphasized ongoing investments in digital technology to support small businesses and create opportunities across various sectors.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu stressed Nigeria’s determination not to lag in technological advancements.<\/p>\n

He outlined efforts to expand ICT opportunities, enhance capacity, and foster partnerships, underscoring the importance of Nigerian youths in driving the country’s digital economy.<\/p>\n

President Tinubu highlighted the government’s 3MTT programme, which aims to train three million Nigerian youths in digital technology and essential skills, preparing them for participation in the global economy.<\/p>\n

He emphasized the readiness of Nigeria to collaborate on technological advancements for mutual benefit.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, Clegg expressed gratitude for an executive order issued by President Tinubu, facilitating the landing of a Meta-backed deep-sea cable in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

He described the project as an extraordinary infrastructure initiative with the potential to significantly boost economic activity across the African continent.<\/p>\n

Dr Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, emphasized the critical role of Meta platforms in Nigeria and highlighted the importance of partnerships to drive development in the digital economy sector.<\/p>\n
