Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent Nigeria at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, as President Bola Tinubu opts out to focus on domestic issues following a recent trip abroad.<\/p>\n

The decision comes in light of pressing national challenges, including the aftermath of severe flooding in Nigeria, the Presidency stated in a statement on Thursday.<\/p>\n

During the assembly, which runs from September 24 to 28, 2024, Shettima is set to deliver Nigeria’s national statement and engage in key sideline events and bilateral meetings.<\/p>\n

The theme for this year’s General Debate is “Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations,” emphasising global cooperation towards sustainable development goals.<\/p>\n

This assembly marks a significant opportunity for Nigeria to address international concerns while reinforcing its commitment to global partnerships amidst ongoing domestic challenges.<\/p>\n
