{"id":1862,"date":"2020-05-20T21:55:05","date_gmt":"2020-05-20T20:55:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedailyleaks.com\/?p=1862"},"modified":"2020-05-20T21:55:05","modified_gmt":"2020-05-20T20:55:05","slug":"bauchi-suspends-covid-19-lockdown-lifts-ban-on-religious-gathering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedailyleaks.com\/bauchi-suspends-covid-19-lockdown-lifts-ban-on-religious-gathering\/","title":{"rendered":"Bauchi suspends COVID-19 lockdown, lifts ban on religious gathering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bauchi State government, on Wednesday, announced the suspension of the partial and total lockdown order put in place to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Bala Mohammad, who made this known in Bauchi, while giving update on COVID-19 situation in the state, said all religious activities could commence, but with strict adherence to all the preventive measures put in place to prevent the spread of the virus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of the stakeholders and the government of Bauchi state, I wish to convey to you that the partial lockdown imposed on the state is relaxed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe relaxation will enable the people of Bauchi to attend their places of worship like the private worship, the Eid ground and the Churches.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO READ:\u00a0<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thedailyleaks.com\/ui-nigerias-premier-university-begins-search-for-new-vice-chancellor\/\">UI, Nigeria\u2019s premier university, begins search for new vice chancellor<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut in doing that, they shall continue to practice social and physical distancing, as well as \u00a0all medical measures including washing of hands with soap and using of face masks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe total lockdown imposed in Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area, Giade and Zaki, is also relaxed from Thursday morning,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The governor also said that the state government did not impose the lockdown to punish anybody, but wanted things to be calm and to contain the virus as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did not enforce the lockdown because we wanted to punish anybody, but we wanted this thing to calm down and it has calmed down,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammad further said that people were free to go about their normal businesses, but must exercise all the underlined preventive measures.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that in spite of the relaxation, palliatives would continue to be provided to the people, adding that all local governments would be treated on equal basis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Bauchi State government, on Wednesday, announced the suspension of the partial and total lockdown order put in place to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus in the state.
