The Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro, is dead.<\/p>\n
Aged 65, Dr Adegbenro died at Federal Medical Centre, Owo, after a brief illness.<\/p>\n
The commissioner admitted at Crown Hospital, Akure last week before he was moved to Federal Medical Centre, Owo for further treatment.<\/p>\n
Sources said that he could have died from suspected COVID-19 complications, but official report has not suggested so.<\/p>\n
Recalled that it was only on Tuesday Governor Rotimi Akeredolu he had gone on self-isolation after he tested positive for COVID-19.<\/p>\n
ALSO READ:\u00a0<\/strong>Ondo Gov Akeredolu tests positive for COVID-19, says \u2018I\u2019m asymptomatic\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Consequently, sources believed the commissioner a member of Akeredolu’s cabinet had been positive to the highly infectious virus before he fell ill.<\/p>\n His profile<\/strong><\/p>\n The late health commissioner, Dr Wahab Adegbenro, was born on June 5, 1955 at Ilara-mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, where he had his primary education.<\/p>\n After his primary education, he attended Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure between 1962 and 1967, after which he got admitted to the University of Benin, in , where he bagged his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B; B.S) degree.<\/p>\n Dr Adegbenro was a member of his professional body, the\u00a0Nigeria Medical Association (NMA); likewise the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria.<\/p>\n Also, he was an Associate member, Royal College of General Practitioners of London; and member of Nigeria Guild of Medical Directors.<\/p>\n Before his appointment as the health commissioner in Ondo, Dr Adegbenro was once a commissioner in charge of culture and tourism, and before then, he had served in different capacities as a medical practitioner.<\/p>\n Also in Ondo,,he had served as the Chairman, Ondo State Council of All Progressive Congress (APC) Muslim members.<\/p>\n Dr Adegbenro was also the founder of Crown Hospital, Akure where he was the Chief Medical Director (CMD).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro, is dead.
