The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has conducted the 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), in Chibok Local Government, Borno State, the first time since the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls in the area by Boko Haram insurgents, six years ago.<\/p>\n

Students for the first time sat to write Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), in Chibok Local Government, Borno State, six years after over 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped by the Boko Haram terrorists.<\/p>\n

This was disclosed on Thursday, by the 7 Division, Nigerian Army.<\/p>\n

The Nigerian government had closed down schools in Chibok Local Government Areas consequent upon the April 14, 2014, abduction of the over 200 schoolgirls from the Government Girls\u2019 Secondary School in Chibok.<\/p>\n

The schoolgirls’ abduction attracted a global uproar, as a civil movement championed by the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) advocacy group, formed by concerned Nigerians after the incident, mobilised interest groups and individuals worldwide to join in the call for the release of the innocent girls.<\/p>\n

Some of the kidnapped schoolgirls, precisely 107 of them have since been released, out of 219 kidnapped, after series of joint rescue efforts and representative negotiations between the Federal Government and the terrorists, while the remaining 112 are still missing.<\/p>\n

However, six years down the line, the the girls’ only school has now been converted into a mixed school for boys and girls.<\/p>\n

President Muhammadu Buhari, who succeeded former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was in power when the schoolgirls were kidnapped, had set a three-fold agenda of fighting insecurity, corruption and revamping the economy,\u00a0had also given his words in ensuring the release of other schoolgirls being held captive, whose release are still being awaited, in over five years of his first and second term administration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
