Not minding the Sunday disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, the #EndSARS protesters took over the ever busy Lekki-Epe Expressway early Monday morning, causing traffic gridlock.<\/p>\n

The protesters gathered in front of of the Lekki Toll Gate section of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos State, as they resumed peaceful demonstrations.<\/p>\n

However, the development left commuters and motorists on their way to resume work on standstill mode as vehicular movement of vehicles was not allowed.<\/p>\n

IGP Adamu, had on Sunday afternoon, announced the disbandment of the SARS unit of the Nigeria Police following raging outcry by Nigerian youths in organised protests over atrocities attributed to SARS operatives.<\/p>\n

While explaining the proscription terms, the IGP said a new policing arrangement to replace the now-defunct police unit would be announced \u201cin due course,\u201d adding that all officers of the disbanded SARS have been redeployed with \u201cimmediate effect.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the protesters said they want the police authorities to carry out psychological evaluation and re-training of all disbanded SARS officers before they are redeployed.<\/p>\n

But not entirely pleased by the development, the protesters also presented conditions for to move off streets, among which was a demand for the release of all arrested protesters.<\/p>\n

They also called for justice for all deceased victims of police brutality, while asking for appropriate compensation for their families.<\/p>\n

Likewise, the protesters also asked for increased salaries for police officers as well as the establishment of an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct within 10 days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
