A South African writer, television host and political commentator, Trevor Noah, has slammed the American news platform, the Cable Network News (CNN), over its coverage of the Twitter ban in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Noah, a political commentator said, he didn\u2019t care for the way CNN anchor Michael Holmes<\/a>\u00a0described Nigeria during the network\u2019s coverage of the country\u2019s recent Twitter ban, pointing out how unlikely it would be to see the United States given similar treat over similar issues.<\/p>\n

Holmes had called Nigeria \u201ca country plagued by kidnappings, extremists and bandits\u201d in a weekend segment about Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari banning Twitter and prosecuting Nigerians<\/a>\u00a0who try to use it.<\/p>\n

Noah, also an actor and comedian, who is from South Africa, cracked a few jokes about the Twitter ban but closed his monologue on Monday\u2019s \u201cDaily Show<\/a>\u201d by pointing out the subtle bias in the way Holmes introduced the segment.<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay, as an African allow me to say what the f\u2014,\u201d Noah exclaimed angrily. \u201cI mean yes, that\u2019s all true. But still, what the f\u2014? You never hear a foreign news anchor talking about the United States that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Noah then pretended he was an African news anchor doing a report about the United States, complete with a video filter that put cheesy fake glasses over his face. He also noted that if Nigeria has \u201cextremism,\u201d America too\u00a0has its own<\/a>\u00a0fair share.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica is a country plagued by school shootings, extremist and failing infrastructure\u2026 but the government wants to raise the price of postage stamps,\u201d Noah joked.<\/p>\n

Noah pointed out that this situation in Nigeria reminded him of former president\u00a0Trump\u2019s battles with Twitter<\/a>. Trump famously is\u00a0banned<\/a>\u00a0from Twitter,\u00a0Facebook<\/a>\u00a0and nearly all social media platforms in the U.S. for posts that were deemed to incite\u00a0violence\u00a0<\/a>\u2013 and Noah joked that Trump probably is looking at the situation in Nigeria right now wishing he could take a page from Buhari\u2019s book.<\/p>\n

\u201cShout out to African presidents, because they will always remind the world what a real dictator looks like,\u201d Noah said. \u201cBecause remember, when when Twitter started flagging Trump\u2019s tweets, all he did was throw a tantrum. You know, he\u2019s got to be jealous as hell right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Noah then imitated Trump saying, \u201cit\u2019s like I\u2019ve always said, those\u00a0s\u2014hole countries<\/a>. They knew what they\u2019re doing. Buhari, thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n
