{"id":9003,"date":"2021-10-06T22:24:34","date_gmt":"2021-10-06T21:24:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedailyleaks.com\/?p=9003"},"modified":"2021-10-06T22:37:00","modified_gmt":"2021-10-06T21:37:00","slug":"osinbajo-goes-to-london-representing-buhari-at-pre-cop26-un-climate-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedailyleaks.com\/osinbajo-goes-to-london-representing-buhari-at-pre-cop26-un-climate-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Osinbajo goes to London representing Buhari at pre-COP26 UN Climate Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nigeria&#8217;s Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, will leave Nigeria for London, the United Kingdom, on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>He is to\u00a0represent President Muhammadu Buhari at a series of meetings hosted by the United Nations ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference, COP 26, holding later this month from October 31 to November 12 in Glassgow, Scotland in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>The meetings to be held in London on Friday October 8, will focus on the issues around a just and equitable energy transition towards the attainment of the global target of Net-Zero emissions by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>Recalled that the Vice President, Prof Osinbajo, who had spoken earlier at the UN High-Level Dialogue on Energy has been articulating the Federal Government&#8217;s view as the international community proceeds towards the Net-Zero emissions target.<\/p>\n<p>He had said there is the need to ensure that the transition is just and equitable taking into consideration the status of developing nations like Nigeria who will still depend on gas projects in the period of the transition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thedailyleaks.com\/im-proud-of-my-teachers-osinbajo-says-celebrates-nigerian-teachers-on-world-teachers-day\/\">I\u2019m proud of my teachers, Osinbajo says, celebrates Nigerian teachers on World Teachers\u2019 Day<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There has been concerns expressed by developing countries like Nigeria that the plan, (being a part of the Net-Zero emissions target), to defund gas projects by a number of developed countries and certain multilateral agencies could rub developing countries like Nigeria wrongly, especially as such countries only contribute very minimal percentage of the fossil fuel emissions.<\/p>\n<p>The Spokesperson to the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande, has confirmed that the VP would indeed be representing the President at the event being organized by UN Energy this weekend in London.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Nigeria&#8217;s Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, will leave Nigeria for London, the United Kingdom, on Friday.
