Nigerians on social media have continued to rally support for the 2023 Presidency of Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party primaries in May.
Hundreds of the Nigerian social media users, Saturday morning, April 16 2022, took to Twitter and Facebook to promote the hashtag #NigeriansForOsinbajo, affirming Prof Osinbajo, as the best to occupy the presidential seat in 2023, thereby urging the APC to field him as its candidate for the presidential election being Nigerians’ preferred choice.
“A great majority of Nigerians want Prof Osinbajo to assume leadership of the country in 2023 because they believe he has the capacity to lead and effect positive change in the polity,” on of the campaigners, Kelvin Obambon, said.

Recall that Osinbajo concluded his consultation days ago when he hosted the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors under the aegis of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) inside his official residence at the Akinola Aguda House, Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
After then, he had hosted members of the APC caucus of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
In the same vein, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, who, many had posited as Osinbajo’s biggest challenger also held a rally at the Onikan Stadium, in Lagos, earlier on Saturday, as he continued his consultation after expressing his intention to contest the Presidency to President Muhammadu Buhari, in his Aso Rock office, though he said he was yet to inform Nigerians.
But showcasing Osinbajo as a preferred candidate, many Nigerians took to Twitter and Facebook, the micro blogging site, Saturday morning, to promote the hashtag, #NigeriansForOsinbajo, citing different reasons they believed Osinbajo should take over from President Buhari as his best successor.
They also also took their time to play down the concept of betrayal as it has been consistently used by the ardent supporters of Asiwaju, blackmailing Vice President Osinbajo over his intention to run for the Presidency, alongside their principal, who they claimed was the VP’s “godfather.”
Only on Saturday, coincidentally, a revelation came out to the public about former President Olusegun Obasanjo inviting Osinbajo to take up appointment as the Attorney General of the Federation in 2005, then, when Osinbajo as the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice represented Lagos State in making a request for Obasanjo to released the seized monthly allocation to the state.
Report had it that President Obasanjo wanted to use the Lagos council funds to lure Osinbajo into accepting the offer, but Osinbajo, for his loyalty to Lagos and his former boss, Tinubu, declined, requesting that the local government council funds be released instead.
Reference was made to this revelation with many believing that Osinbajo should never be accused of betrayal because he stood by Asiwaju when it mattered most.
Below are some of their reactions:
Most of Osinbajo’s engagements in different places for the past couple of months have been turned into a campaign ground by thousands of his supporters. Everywhere he goes, he is lauded and garlanded for his virtues.

Our politicians must embrace a more enduring form of loyalty that is geared towards lasting ideals and the common good, rather than to some power mongers. 2023 is the most eagerly anticipated election period in our recent history.

When you are going into a fire, those who you claim are your benefactors or godfathers most likely will not follow you, since they know it burns. Don’t expect them to go beyond being your judge in facing life challenges.

For me, Osinbajo remains Nigeria’s most active and youth-serving Vice President in our democratic history and the reasons why he is being repeatedly called upon by many Nigerians to contest the 2023 presidency.

The national mood at the moment calls for Osinbajo Presidency. It was, therefore, not surprising that the BBC declared in one of its reports that Osinbajo is Nigerians’ favourite leader.

To set the record straight, that Osinbajo was helped by Tinubu as a particular point in time, that was even a call to serve the people, and not one man. Helping someone shouldn’t take away his humanity of pursuing his ambition as long as it is a noble cause

The fact is, service is not about self. It is about seeking the best of others. Loyalty that is about self does not ennoble and never lasts. Sadly, that is the loyalty that many of our politicians crave. And that is why Nigeria is in such a sorry state today

It is better to reason it out that, for Osinbajo, the fate of over 200 million Nigerians calling for his leadership is more important and noble than just one man’s long life ambition.

Osinbajo’s destiny shouldn’t be permanently held down as a stooge.
He has the right to contest the office of the president. Those who are threatened with his growing support base should stop being ridiculous. Here is a king

Nigeria needs leadership in 2023 and that should be the focus of our discussion and not whether one man should run against his benefactor or not. Nigerians will elect their leader when the time comes.

It should be noteworthy that Buhari and Osinbajo’s relationship has spanned 7 years now. And there has never been a power tussle between the two. If this is not loyalty then the word ‘loyalty’ has no meaning again.
