Nigeria’s former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has met with Kenya’s President William Ruto to explore collaborative strategies for large-scale green tech job creation across Africa.

The meeting which was held recently at the State Lodge in Eldoret, Kenya, also had in attendance Mrs. Natalie Jabangwe, CEO of the Africa Innovation Fund, Timbuktoo.

Prof. Osinbajo, now serving as a Global Advisor to the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), reflected on the meeting on his Instagram handle, stating: “At the State Lodge in Eldoret, Kenya, I had the privilege of joining H.E. President William Ruto and Ms. Natalie Jabangwe, CEO of the Africa Innovation Fund, Timbuktoo, for an insightful discussion.”

The discussion centred on the substantial potential for creating green tech jobs on a large scale. Prof. Osinbajo highlighted the synergies between various initiatives, noting: “We explored the immense potential for creating green tech jobs on a large scale through the synergies between the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative, and the Africa Innovation Fund, Timbuktoo initiatives the president has championed, including the one he launched at COP28.”

As a GEAPP Global Advisor, Prof. Osinbajo continues to advocate for climate action and green energy transitions, aligning with his role in supporting GEAPP’s mission to accelerate clean energy deployment in developing countries.

His involvement in such discussions underscores his commitment to driving sustainable development and economic growth through innovative and green technologies.

The meeting coincided with a historic moment for Eldoret, as Prof. Osinbajo mentioned: “Our meeting also coincided with the historic moment of Eldoret’s official declaration as a city, a place renowned for producing many of the world’s most celebrated athletes.”

Their meeting in Kenya highlights the collaborative efforts among African leaders to drive green industrialisation and innovation, aligning with broader global climate goals and economic development strategies.
