In a dramatic turn of events, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the recently deposed Emir of Kano, made a bold move on Saturday by addressing his supporters from the mini palace in Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano State.

This comes just days after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf repealed the Emirates Council Law, leading to the removal of Bayero and four other emirs.

The tension in the air was palpable as Bayero emerged from the palace, greeted by the roar of his loyal supporters who had gathered to show their unwavering allegiance.

Despite the directive from the state government ordering the deposed emirs to vacate their official residences within 48 hours, Bayero made the decision to return to Kano, defying the order and making a statement of his own.

The move by Governor Yusuf to reinstate Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II as the new Emir of Kano has only served to further ignite the passions of Bayero’s supporters, who see his removal as an unjust and politically motivated decision.

The repeal of the Emirates Council Law, which had previously granted autonomy to the emirs, has been met with widespread criticism and concern among traditional rulers and their supporters across the state.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the state government will respond to Bayero’s bold display of defiance.

The coming days and weeks will undoubtedly be crucial in determining the future of the traditional leadership in Kano State and the role of the deposed emirs in the ongoing political landscape.
