Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, a prominent Ijaw leader, elder statesman, and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has died at the age of 97. He passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement released by his family.
Born on May 25, 1927, Edwin Clark was a significant figure in Nigerian politics, known for his advocacy for the rights of the Niger Delta region.
He served as the Federal Commissioner for Information and collaborated with military leaders such as General Yakubu Gowon and Governor Samuel Ogbemudia from 1966 to 1975.

During this period, in 1966, he was also a member of the advisory committee to the military governor of the Mid-Western Region, David Ejoor.
Clark’s contributions extended beyond politics. He was a philanthropist, establishing the Edwin Clark Foundation and Edwin Clark University, which commenced academic activities in 2015.
The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family has requested prayers and will announce further details regarding funeral arrangements at a later time.
