Tinubu sacks 5 ministers, reassigns 10, appoints 7 new ones in cabinet reshuffle

President Bola Tinubu has announced a significant reshuffle of his cabinet, which included the dismissal of five ministers, the redeployment of 10 others, and the appointment of seven new ministers.

Dismissed ministers
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that the following five ministers have been relieved of their duties:

– Uju-Ken Ohanenye: Former Minister of Women Affairs.

– Lola Ade-John: Former Minister of Tourism
– Prof. Tahir Mamman: Former Minister of Education.

– Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo: Former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.

– Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim: Former Minister of Youth Development.

Redeployed ministers
Ten existing ministers have been reassigned to new portfolios:

– Hon. DDrYusuf Tanko Sununu: Formerly Minister of State for Education, now Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

– Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa: Formerly Minister of State for Health, now Minister of Education.

– Bello Muhammad Goronyo: Formerly Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, now Minister of State for Works.

– Hon. Abubakar Eshiokpekha Momoh: Formerly Minister of Niger Delta Development, now Minister of Regional Development.

– Uba Maigari Ahmadu: Formerly Minister of State for Steel Development, now Minister of State for Regional Development.

– DDrDoris Uzoka-Anite: Formerly Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, now Minister of State for Finance.

– Senator John Owan Enoh: Formerly Minister of Sports Development, now Minister of State for Trade and Investment (Industry).

– Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim: Formerly Minister of State for Police Affairs, now Minister of Women Affairs.

– Ayodele Olawande: Formerly Minister of State for Youth Development, now Minister for Youth Development.

– Dr. Salako Iziaq Adekunle Adeboye: Formerly Minister of State for Environment, now Minister of State for Health.

New appointments
Seven new ministers have been nominated and are awaiting Senate confirmation:

– Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda: Nominated as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

– Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi: Nominated as Minister of Labour and Employment.

– Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu: Nominated as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

– Dr. Jumoke Oduwole: Nominated as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment
– Idi Mukhtar Maiha: Nominated for the newly established Ministry of Livestock Development.

– Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata: Nominated as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.

– Suwaiba Said Ahmad: Nominated as Minister of State for Education.

Additional appointments and changes
Other notable appointments include:

– Sunday Akin Dare: Appointed as Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation, working from the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

– Shehu Dikko: Appointed as Chairman of the National Sports Commission.

Ministry mergers and scrappings
As part of the reshuffle, several ministries have been merged or scrapped:

– The Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development have been scrapped.

– A new Ministry of Regional Development will oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission.

– The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports Development.

– The Ministry of Tourism has been merged with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the outgoing members of the Federal Executive Council for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavours.

He charged the newly appointed ministers and their reassigned colleagues to see their appointments as a call to serve the nation and focus on driving Nigeria’s growth.
