The Emir of Rano in Kano State, Tafida Abubakar-Ila, is dead.
The Secretary, Rano Emirate council, Sank Haruna, who disclosed this to newsmen, said the information about the emir’s death was received few minutes to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Aged 75, Abubakar Illa, was one of the emirs recently crowned by Kano State Governor Abubakar Ganduje, in the newly created disputed four new emirates in the state.

Abubakar-Illa, who had been indisposed, was, on Friday admitted at Mallam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital over an undisclosed ailment.
He was moved out of the hospital for lack of oxygen to the Nassarawa Specialist Hospital for further medical attention, where he breathed his last few hours after he was admitted on Saturday.
Though the real cause of the Abubakar-Illa’s death is yet to be announced, it has raised speculations as it came at a time Kano State was hit by a wave of deaths from COVID-19 since it recorded its first index in April.
Ganduje had created the new emirate in 2019, a development which received wild criticism from supporters of the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, attempt to whittle down the influence of Sanusi as the then Emir of Kano which had only one emirate.
The newly created emirates include Bichi headed by Aminu Bayero, son of late emir Ado Bayero; Rano to headed by Tafida Abubakar until his death; Karaye headed by Ibrahim Abubakar, and Gaya headed by Ibrahim Abdulkadir.
