In the wake of the current controversy over the whistle blower’s corruption allegations levelled against Mr Akinwunmi Adesina, the President of Africa Development Bank (AfDB), Nigerians and other well-meaning followers around the globe are passing goodwill messages.
Adesina had been exonerated of all accusations by the AfDB Ethics Committee, but the insistence of the United States, a non-regional member country, calling for an independent probe is heightening tension in this premier supranational development institution for Africa, which had hitherto been peaceful.
The current AfDB president, already rounding off his five-year tenure, is enjoying a consensus agreement from all regional member countries of AfFB, who have ratified him as the only candidate for another five-year second term.

Now, in a show of solidarity, Nigerians and other friends of Adesina globally have taken to the social media to declare their support in a Twitter campaign with the hashtag #IStandWithAdesina.
Below are their comments:
I have seen many takes on the @AfDB_Group crisis since my thread yesterday and I’m disappointed that many do not understand how global politics work. Akin Adesina is being made a sacrificial lamb for US interests. And as a Nigerian, #IstandWithAdesina. Let me tell you why. Thread pic.twitter.com/hevbVp9mnX

I am totally happy to see African leaders rallying to show solidarity and support for @akin_adesina. This isn’t just about the office of AfDB President, but about African dignity, about Africa standing against modern era imperialism. This is brilliant. 👏 👏 #IstandWithAdesina pic.twitter.com/St0cXD8BnY

Can we all stand firm with @akin_adesina, and indeed with our dear Continent at a time like this? Never again shall we succumb to the imperialists. #IstandWithAdesina @DrJoeAbah @OgbeniDipo @cchukudebelu @segalink @renoomokri @obyezeks @ChidiOdinkalu pic.twitter.com/COLHvvma7u

His achievement and capacity to deliver more has been the thorn in their flesh, that's why they wanted him out at all cost. Let's us all stand and support our own… Stand Africa!#IstandWithAdesina #IstandWithAfrica/Adesina#AAA pic.twitter.com/5iXhdtk4tQ

Akinwunmi Adesina intention is very clear. He knows what he's doing. The westerners don't like an independent and forward thinking African, they want a stooge that would be controlled from Washington. Let's protect him and ensure that he retains the seat 🙏#IstandWithAdesina pic.twitter.com/nQuGRmTDO6

This character lynching of Akinwunmi Adesina of the AfDB by the US must be stoutly resisted #istandwithadesina

Whenever you’re in a high office & you’re doing the right thing contrary to the interest of ‘the powers that be’, they’ll do anything to bring you down. Such is the case of @akin_adesina.
He may not be a saint but he is doing far more good to Africa than harm.#IstandWithAdesina

True and great Leader automatically responds to any problem by listening first. I was 26 years old when I first met you, and I saw hope. You are the star of agripreneurs and for African agriculture. My prayers are with you #IstandWithAdesina @AfDB_Group #WeAreAllTripleA pic.twitter.com/t9YgOfUr5H

Ideally, if it were to be a normal society, #IstandWithAdesina would be trending. Followed this man right from his days as the minister of agriculture till date. The president better take this seriously, non- regional nations cannot have the most say in an African entity.😪.. pic.twitter.com/ZESwKrOWnS

#IStandWithAdesina against all odds, I believe in his dream and vision for youths and Africa. He's jealous about Africans with a clear vision:

What @akin_adesina has done for Nigeria and Africa Agriculture no one has done such.
When he was minister of Agric he brought initiative for fertilizer wallet using technology.
He is our Developmental Saviour#IstandWithAdesina #AgriculturalIndustrialization #foodsecurity— NaijaFarmer (@Nig_Farmer) May 29, 2020
