Buhari confers Nigeria’s highest honours GCFR, GCON on Tinubu, Shettima

TinubuPreparatory to the May 29 handing-over ceremony, President Muhammadu Buhari President has conferred the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR), Nigeria’s highest honour, on the President-elect Bola Tinubu.

TinubuSimilarly, the President also conferred the national honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON) on the Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima.

Both are Nigeria’s highest national honours reserved for the President and Vice President respectively.

President Buhari performed the investiture of the national honours ceremony on the two incoming leaders at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, on Thursday morning, May 25, 2023, where he also presented them with the official handover of transition documents.

The formal handover of government expected to hold on Monday, May 29, 2023, will mark Nigeria’s 7th consecutive democratic transition.

Dignitaries in attendance at the ceremony include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, families of the recipients of the honours and others.
