Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, Nigeria’s immediate past Vice President, has disowned a series of fraudulent AI-generated videos misusing his image and voice to promote fake products and scams, warning the public to be vigilant and not fall for such deception.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Mohammed Braimah, Osinbajo’s office condemned the growing circulation of deepfake videos which falsely depict him endorsing dubious products and questionable money-making schemes.

“We wish to alert the public to the existence of several videos currently circulating online, which are entirely fake and misleading,” Braimah stated. “Prof. Osinbajo has no connection whatsoever with any of the products or schemes being promoted in these clips.”

One of the manipulated videos shows a computer-generated likeness of the former Vice President advertising a hypertension drug, while another uses an artificially cloned version of his voice to promote a fraudulent investment scheme.

“These videos are complete fabrications designed to mislead unsuspecting members of the public,” Braimah added. “We urge Nigerians to remain vigilant, to verify any claims of endorsements before acting on them, and to disregard all such fraudulent content.”

The Office also raised concern over the misuse of advanced technologies to perpetrate fraud, calling it a dangerous trend that damages reputations and exploits unsuspecting people.

“The rise of deepfake technology has opened dangerous new avenues for online fraud,” Braimah warned. “This case clearly demonstrates how even respected public figures can be impersonated by malicious actors for criminal purposes.”

Reaffirming its determination to protect Osinbajo’s integrity and combat misinformation, the Office encouraged media organisations and the public to report any further deceptive materials.

“We remain committed to safeguarding Prof. Osinbajo’s reputation and urge everyone to help in identifying and reporting these scams,” the statement concluded.
