Presidential poll: Tinubu wins Ekiti with 201,494 votes — INEC

Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has been declared the winner of Saturday’s presidential election in Ekiti State.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, made the declaration Sunday evening, February 26, 2023, after reading out the election results at the National Collation Centre in Abuja.

Tinubu polled, 201,494 votes to defeat his closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, who polled 89,554 votes.

The candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, polled 11,397 votes, while Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) polled 264 votes.

Of all the 36 states in Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, where the presidential election held, the result from Ekiti State is the first to be announced by INEC.

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, Osun State, Prof. Ayobami Salami, who is the Residential Collation officer for Ekiti State, announced the result on Sunday evening in Abuja.

After the announcement, later declared as authentic by the INEC Chairman, Yakubu, he adjourned the collation of results till 11:00 am on Monday, February 27, saying other states’ results are still being awaited.
