The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), winner of the Anambra State governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

Announcing the results in Awka on Sunday, the State Returning Officer, Professor Nnenna Otti, said Soludo scored 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 99,445 votes.

The Labour Party candidate, Valentine Ozigbo, came third with 46,118 votes, while Senator Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) recorded 13,522 votes.

INEC reported that out of 595,298 total votes cast, 584,054 were valid, while 11,244 were rejected.

Soludo swept all 21 local government areas of the state, consolidating APGA’s firm grip on Anambra politics since 2006.

The election, described by INEC as largely peaceful, witnessed improved logistics, functional deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), and cooperation from security agencies.

However, it was marked by low voter turnout and reports of vote-buying in some polling units.

Observer missions, including the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) and Yiaga Africa, confirmed the credibility of the process but called for stricter enforcement against electoral malpractice.

In his victory speech, Soludo expressed gratitude to the people of Anambra, dedicating his triumph to “the resilience and unity of our people.”

He pledged to focus his second term on economic revitalisation, infrastructure development, education reform, and youth empowerment.

INEC commended voters for their orderly conduct and urged all political actors to pursue any grievances through lawful channels, noting that the transparent upload of results to the IReV portal underscored the integrity of the process.

Soludo’s re-election affirms APGA’s continued dominance in Anambra, positioning him to deepen reforms and drive inclusive governance across the state.
