The United States Government has expressed its readiness to support the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo-led Federal Government Energy Transition team in a bilateral partnership to help the country push through the Climate Change adaptation process.
The United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry, who was on a working visit to Nigeria, gave the assurance on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, during a meeting with Prof Osinbajo in his office, at the Presidential Villa.
Before he met with the VP, Kerry had also met with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking at the meeting with the VP Kerry said, “the team at the embassy is prepared to be all in, so, I am here to say that we are prepared to work with you in the same way we do in partnership.”
Kerry further lauded the efforts and leadership qualities of Vice President Osinbajo, describing him as being “so terrific.”
He said: “You have been so terrific. Your seriousness, purpose and your knowledge, and you have really been trying to pull people together which is great and I admire that.”

Speaking further, the US Climate Envoy also promised to assist Nigeria with the necessary expertise to scientifically determine the most appropriate energy mix that will move the country toward the goal of energy for all by 2030 and to attain the Net Zero carbon emissions target by 2060, without compromising the country’s energy security.
Recall that Prof Osinbajo, had, during his recent visit to Washington, DC, solicited global support towards the country’s energy transition pathways.
The plan is expected to gulp at least $10 billion per annum above business-as-usual spending for effective implementation.
During his US trip, Osinbajo met with his American counterpart, Vice President Kamala Harris, at the White House, among other top US government officials.
Before the recent US trip, the Federal Government had launched the Energy Transition Plan at a global virtual event.
