The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports claiming that the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, inaugurated a committee to manage the reintegration of Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) scholars into Nigerian universities.

In a statement released on Saturday by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, the Ministry said, “No such committee has been inaugurated, and there is no reintegration plan for BEA scholars currently in place.”

The Ministry cautioned the public to disregard the false press release circulating under the title, “BEA: Education Minister receives committee’s report.”

The statement reiterated that the BEA Scholarship Programme was discontinued following a comprehensive policy review aimed at prioritising domestic tertiary education.

“The Federal Government has discontinued the BEA Scholarship Programme as part of a strategic policy shift to prioritise and strengthen domestic tertiary education,” the statement said.

It explained that courses previously offered abroad under the BEA are now available, and often of higher quality, at Nigerian universities and polytechnics.

The Ministry further assured that “all ongoing BEA scholars will continue to receive full government support until the completion of their academic programmes,” including tuition, stipends, and all approved entitlements.

Members of the public were urged to rely only on verified information from official Ministry communication channels.
