Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, said President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his commitment towards solving the current security challenges.
He disclosed this in a statement released on Friday, at the end of a National Security meeting presided over by President Buhari at the State House, Abuja, with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Internal Affairs Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, the Service Chief, including NSA Munguno, in attendance.
Munguno, who hinted that the meeting had been adjourned till next week Tuesday morning to receive further briefings from the Security Chiefs, said they “are set and determined to decisively end the assault on the nation and will do all that it takes,” adding that the President will take adequate measures to end insecurity.
Recalled that in recent times, Nigerians had been attacks by bandits and insurgents across the country, as gunmen had invaded schools, security facilities and several communities.
In the last four months of the year alone, hundreds of people have been killed, while thousands have been displaced from their different homes and communities, a situation, which had, during the week, forced the House of Representatives to call on President Buhari to declare a state of emergency in the nation’s security sector.
Others in attendance at the national security meeting were Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Minister of Defence, Major-General Bashir Magashi (retd.); the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor; Chief of Army Staff; Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Attahiru; Chief of Naval Staff; Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amoo; and the acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba.
