Tinubu in Netherlands to strengthen economic ties, seek sustainable solutions

Tuesday, April 23, 2024 — President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria touched down in The Hague, Netherlands, aboard Nigeria Air Force 1, on Tuesday evening, commencing a diplomatic mission focused on enhancing economic cooperation and pursuing sustainable development initiatives.

Accompanied by senior government officials, President Tinubu’s visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to international partnerships and innovative solutions for growth.

Upon arrival at Schipol International Airport at 10:10 pm local time, President Tinubu was warmly welcomed by Dutch officials before proceeding to engage in a series of high-level discussions with Dutch leaders.

Invited by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, President Tinubu’s visit aims to deepen bilateral relations and explore opportunities for collaboration in key sectors such as agriculture, water management, and port operations.

During his stay in the Netherlands, President Tinubu is also expected to hold separate meetings with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Kingdom, emphasising the importance of diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the Netherlands.

These discussions will lay the groundwork for future cooperation and investment initiatives that promote sustainable development and economic prosperity.

During his stay, President Tinubu will participate in the Nigerian-Dutch Business and Investment Forum, where he will address a gathering of business leaders and government officials.

The forum provided a platform to showcase Nigeria’s investment potential and attract Dutch investors keen on exploring opportunities in the Nigerian market.

Key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and energy were identified as focal points for collaboration, highlighting the potential for mutual benefit.

In addition to his engagements in the Netherlands, President Tinubu’s itinerary includes attendance at a special World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Scheduled for April 28-29, the WEF meeting will convene leaders from various sectors to discuss global collaboration, growth, and energy for development.

President Tinubu aims to leverage this platform to advance his Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigeria and engage in discussions aligning with the nation’s development priorities.

With a focus on economic cooperation and global engagement, President Tinubu’s diplomatic efforts aim to position Nigeria as a key player in the international arena, driving growth and prosperity for its citizens.
