President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he won’t disclose his “preferred successor” in office come 2023 for security reasons.

Specifically, he said it was to prevent a possible elimination of such a person if disclosed to the public.

President Buhari gave the information on Wednesday, during a special interview with the Channels TV, informing that he would rather keep the name of his preferred successor as a secret.

In an attempt by the interviewers to force words out of his mouth when asked if he had a favourite, President Buhari said: “I won’t tell you because if I tell you he may be eliminated before then.”

However, the discussion reverberating in the media towards the end of last year till date have suggested the names of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as possible top contenders for the country’s No 1 office, though both are yet to publicly declare an interest.
