‘He was a man of courage, leadership hero,’ Laolu Akande mourns Akeredolu

A former Presidential aide and veteran journalist, Laolu Akande, has mourned the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, describing him as a man of courage and labelled him a hero in leadership positions.

Akeredolu, aged 67, died on Wednesday morning, after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer, the state government confirmed in a statement.

The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, announced the governor’s death in a statement saying, “Mr Governor peacefully departed from this world in the early hours of today, Wednesday, December 27, 2023.”

In his tribute shared on his official Twitter account, Akande who was the former spokesman to the immediate former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Osinbajo, SAN, GCON wrote, “Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu,67 was a man of courage. His views reflected his boldness and a redoubtable commitment to the common good and public interest. He was a hero not only at the state and national levels where he held leadership positions, but also among us Loyola College Old boys”

Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), ex-president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and ex-Attorney General of Ondo State, was a second-term governor before his death.
