Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has officially appointed Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Friday morning.

He emphasised that this appointment aims to resolve the social and legal disputes that arose after the death of the previous Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, on April 22, 2022.

He also stated that the decision followed extensive consultations and divinations conducted by the Oyomesi, the traditional kingmakers of Oyo.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ademola Ojo, expressed hope that Owoade’s reign would bring peace, prosperity, and unity to the historic kingdom.

He called upon citizens to support the new Alaafin and celebrate this significant moment in Oyo’s history.

This appointment comes amid previous controversies regarding the succession process, with some kingmakers asserting that another candidate was already elected.

However, Governor Makinde’s endorsement is seen as a step towards restoring stability in the region.
