Former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, hosted a vibrant interactive session with Mandela Washington Fellowship (MWF) alumni and prospective fellows within the Future Perspectives (FP) ecosystem, engaging them on their transformative EdTech projects and leadership journeys.

The event, supported by Africa Fintech Foundry, brought together past and current fellows to share their experiences and aspirations, particularly focusing on the positive impact their initiatives have had across various African communities since participating in the Initiative for Transformational EdTech (ITET) programme over the last two years.

During the discussion, Prof. Osinbajo commended the fellows for their innovation and resilience, especially in the EdTech sector, which he described as a revolution in how education is being delivered across the continent.

“Your work is not only innovative but also transformative. Education technology is shifting paradigms, and it is inspiring to see young Africans lead this charge,” he remarked.

Four fellows who will be departing for the United States this June under the Mandela Washington Fellowship also shared their hopes and goals for the exchange programme, which is designed to empower emerging African leaders through academic coursework, leadership training, and strategic networking.

Prof. Osinbajo, drawing from his experience as the former Attorney General of Lagos State and Nigeria’s immediate past Vice President, urged the fellows to embrace integrity as the bedrock of effective leadership.

“Integrity builds trust,” he said, “and trust is the currency of leadership. Without it, no partnership or initiative can last.”

Future Perspectives expressed pride in the recognition these young changemakers are receiving globally and reiterated its commitment to nurturing African talent that drives development and change.

“We are proud to witness the remarkable contributions of our youth being recognised on a global stage,” FP noted.

The session served as a significant moment of reflection, inspiration, and motivation for the fellows, reinforcing the importance of ethical leadership and technological innovation in shaping Africa’s future.
