2023: Vote most competent candidate, I don’t dictate to Buhari, Daura tells Nigerians

Daura

Mamman Daura, an influential nephew of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, speaking during a rare interview programme has denounced every claim against him.

Dayura, who spoke during a BBC Hausa programme on Tuesday, addressing the clamour for power shift and 2023 elections, advised Nigerians that it is high time the country became united and go for the most competent.

“It is better for this country to be one, the presidency should be for the most competent and not for someone who comes from somewhere,” Daura said.

He contended that, “Rotation has been done once, twice and three times, it is important that this nation should be united as one, the most qualified and competent should be elected and not someone who comes from a particular zone.”

Speaking to what level of influence he has on President Buhari, Daura said, Buhari is his uncle and  he has never imposed any decision on the him.

According to him, “My father was their mother’s firstborn. Buhari is the last born.”

He also confirmed a claim that himself and Buhari grew up together and had always been together, to which he answered affirmatively, “yes, it is true.”

However, on whether he had been meeting Buhari and advising him on issues, he didn’t deny the claim, but said, “Yes, I do visit him to greet him. I do give him advice, but if he asked, I advise him.

“But I don’t go there on my own and insist he must do this or that. No. You don’t do that to the government.”
