The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso has sacked the newly appointed Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.

The court presided by Justice K. A. Adedokun, in its ruling on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, thereby ordered a fresh selection process for a Soun of Ogbomoso to emerge.

The Governor Seyi Makinde-led government of Oyo State had announced the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) pastor, Ghandi, as the new Soun and made him king, on Friday, September 8, 2023.

But before his announcement, one of the contestants for the stool, Prince Kabir Laoye, had approached the court challenging the selection process that brought Ghandi to the throne.

Reports earlier had it that the court had earlier directed that the Oyo State government should not announce anybody as the new Soun pending the case before it is resolved.

Prince Laoye, who challenged Ghandi in court, said the process that brought about his emergence was faulty, and he sought the nullification of his emergence while he pleaded for a fresh selection process.

Justice Adedokun, while delivering the judgement, said the selection process and emergence of Laoye was illegal, as he ordered Ogbomosho kingmakers to go back and start the fresh selection of the new king.
