Covid 19: Buruji Kashamu, former Ogun lawmaker, dies in Lagos

Death has been announced of a former Ogun State lawmaker, Senator Buruji Kashamu.

Kashamu, who represented Ogun-East senatorial district between 2015 and 2019, was said to have died of Covid-19 complications at the First Cardiology Consultants, Lagos.

It was at the same hospital where President Muhammadu Buhari’s former Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, and former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, died.

Kashamu, who was said to be nursing underlying ailments of diabetes and high blood pressure, had been admitted at the hospital for over a week before giving up the ghost, The Daily Leaks learnt.

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, also a former lawmaker, confirmed Kashamu’s death on Saturday, via a post on his social media handle, as he said his friend would be “sorely missed.”

“I have just lost my good friend of forever to COVID-19. Until his death, Sen. Buruji Kashamu and I were inseparable. He died today at First Cardiology Consultants, in Lagos. May his gentle soul rest in peace. I pray his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear this heavy loss,” Murray-Bruce wrote on his verified Twitter handle.

Kashamu, who, in his lifetime had been faced with extradition battle for alleged drug trafficking, was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election.
