First attempt at public service ends well, thankful, says Laolu Akande, lauds media team

Spokesperson of Nigeria’s immediate Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande says he has reflected on his maiden voyage working in Nigeria’s public service for eight years, concluding that it was worth it while expressing gratitude to everyone who worked in the Media Unit of the Office of the Vice President.

Akande’s gratitude is coming following a post he made on Monday, May 29, 2023, on his official Twitter handle @akandeoj, sharing a photo of himself alongside his former principal.

The caption reads, “Ended my 1st attempt at public service – ie working for govt – today. So I reflected. One stretch of 8 years by a particularly independent, atimes feisty reporter; driven by a STRONG desire to bring out the greatness God has deposited in us as a people. Conclusion is I AM SO THANKFUL”

Akande, who followed up on the same tweet, made a number of posts underneath, today, May 31, 2023, e as he expressed appreciation to his colleagues who worked together alongside him in the Media Strategy Support Team of the office of the Immediate Vice President, Prof. Osinbajo.

Akande also specially appreciated the 25 journalists across the country who had written a book in honour of the past VP, detailing his contributions to the public service, his achievements as VP for eight years and his service to humanity. “Expect more from me. We must tell Nigerians,” Akande declared.

The full posts read, “Shout-out to my colleagues in Media Unit of the Office of the VP: Laolu B, Ibilola, Tolani, Timmy & Ruky. You guys were simply phenomenal. And kudos to all the civil servants in the unit, especially Mr Abiola, Jude, Mfon, Hassan & everyone else. I learnt a lot working with u all.”

“Then my P.A.-dogged, never say-die Rotimi Akinnadeju, the young man who pioneered d management of Teleprompters for use of the Vice President in the last several years. Rotimi simply performed miracles that many didn’t notice. But those who did never stopped wondering! Kudos man!”
