Former Ajax FC star Finidi George finds himself at a crucial juncture in his coaching career as he takes on the temporary role of leading the Super Eagles in two crucial friendlies.

Despite his current position as the manager of Enyimba FC, the 52-year-old has been entrusted with the responsibility of guiding the national team in the upcoming matches against Ghana and Mali in international friendlies on March 22 and 26 in Morocco.

With limited staffing, Finidi not only serves as the head coach but also takes on additional roles as the fitness trainer, assistant coach, and goalkeeper trainer.

This challenge is compounded by the absence of key players like Tyronne Ebuehi, Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Gabriel Osho due to injuries, leaving the squad depleted.

The matches against Ghana and Mali will be a test of Finidi’s tactical acumen and ability to motivate his players under challenging circumstances.

If he can deliver promising results, it could bolster his candidacy for the permanent coaching position with the Super Eagles.

As one of the six local-based coaches shortlisted for the role, Finidi has a golden opportunity to stake his claim and leave a lasting impression on the Nigerian Football Federation’s technical committee.
