Governor Abiodun made the disclosure on Tuesday when he played host to Vice President Osinbajo, who was on a visit to Ogun, to meet with delegates of the state All Progressive States (APC).

He lauded the presidential ambition of Prof Osinbajo, saying support for him would enable him to continue with some of the good projects of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

Osinbajo, on his arrival to Ogun State, had visited the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, where he received the royal blessing for the realisation of his presidential ambition.

He also paid homage to the palaces of the Alake of Egbaland, and Paramount Ruler of Egba Kingdom, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, and Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.

Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Ajayi, in his remarks, described the Vice President as a competent leader, with the required qualification to lead Nigeria, while he lauded Osinbajo’s performance as the Acting President, saying, they were there for all to see.

Also at his palace, speaking on the presidential ambition of the Vice President, Prof Osinbajo, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Gbadebo, prayed for the realisation of the Osinbajo 2023 Presidency, saying, the Nigeria of our dreams will come in your time.

“The Vice President here in a homecoming visit. We are pleased with his decision to run for the Office of the President. He is competent and committed to leading the country in a higher capacity.

“Your steadfastness, integrity and character are all well known. You are serving this country and the President meritoriously for the past seven years as the Vice President.

“We do not doubt that you will do well as the president and we will support you,” Governor Abiodun stated.

Abiodun praised the academic excellence of Osinbajo, recalling how he stood behind him during the last governorship election, while he described him as a man who is interested in fairness, justice, equity and the rule of law.

Reacting, Vice President Osinbajo said he was not in the state to campaign, but to inform his people of his intention to run for the Office of the President, adding that he had consulted widely across all sections of the society, including with President Buhari before he made up his mind to succeed his principal.

The Vice President also commended Governor Abiodun-led government in Ogun State for the giant strides it has recorded in the last three years.

“The Vice President position is an opportunity to serve and I have served with utmost loyalty. I put everything into my work. I am a candidate who will hit the ground running when I am elected.

“I have the requisite knowledge to do the job and build on what others have put in place. My Presidency will bring peace, unity and development to the country.

“After all, I have learnt if called upon to serve the nation, should I say No? I have decided that I will run for the office. I have sworn an oath to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is an oath to our people, our children and the future of Nigeria. I owe nobody else any allegiance outside the oath,” Osinbajo said.
