Former Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo has been appointed co-chair of the Future of Development Cooperation Coalition, a new high-level initiative created to rethink how countries collaborate on development finance, aid and sustainable development amid shifting global economic realities.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, where global leaders from government, business and civil society meet annually to address pressing international challenges.

Osinbajo will serve alongside former Spanish foreign minister Arancha González Laya as co-chair of the coalition, which aims to move beyond traditional models of aid and create a shared vision of development that responds to tightening foreign assistance budgets, rising debt challenges, climate vulnerabilities and broader geopolitical pressures.

In his remarks at the launch, Osinbajo emphasised that development cooperation must be outcome-driven, linking collaboration across government, private sector and civil society to real improvements in people’s lives, such as job creation, education access and community resilience.

The coalition’s work is expected to span regions and sectors over the coming year as it explores ways to build more effective partnerships that can deliver measurable development outcomes in an increasingly complex global landscape.
