Osinbajo decorates new IGP Usman Bala, assumes duty

Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has decorated the new acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, with his new rank at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

President Muhammadu Buhari, had, on Tuesday, approved the appointment of of Usman Baba as acting IGP.

Usman Baba replaced Mohammed Adamu, whose tenure expired February 1, 2021, but had been extended for three months by President Buhari.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, disclosing this to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said Usman Baba’s appointment was with immediate effect.

Usman Baba, until his appointment was a Deputy Inspector-General, DIG of Police and would head the Nigeria Police Force in acting capacity pending his confirmation by the senate.

Those who attended his decoration ceremony which took place at the Vice President Conference Hall are, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, former IGP, Mohammed Adamu, Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice-President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande and his counterpart, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.

Others include the Permanent Secretary, State House, Tijjani Umar and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Police Affairs, Mr Temitope Fashedemi.
