Oyo cancels 2019/2020 third term, opens schools fully for new session Sept 21


The Oyo State Government has announced the full school resumption for the 2020/2021 academic session to begin September 21, 2020.

Making the disclosure on Tuesday, the Governor Seyi Makinde-led State Executive Council, said, it has approved a new  academic calendar to guide resumption of schools and other associated educational activities for all categories of classes.

In line with the approved calendar, the first term will run from September 21 to December 18, 2020, while the second term starts from January 11 to April 9, 2020, and the third term which begins on May 3 ends on July 30, 2021.

The state government said it has cancelled the third term of 2019/2020 academic session, while adding that, promotion of students for all affected classes will now be determined by the first and second term continuous assessment.

For the PrImary 6, JSS 3 and SSS 3 students, the new school calendar indicated that, they will proceed on holiday from July 30 and resume for their examination as stated below:

• Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) — August  10 – 18, 2020.

• Competitive Entrance Examination into the Schools of Science — August 19, 2020.

• Placement/Screening Test to JSS1 — August 20, 2020.

• Placement Test into Technical Colleges — August 28, 2020

The state government, said SSS 3 will resume for their examination as soon as WAEC announces the examination date.

Consequent upon the changes in the school calendar, the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, has called on all stakeholders and members of the public to take note of the details of the academic calendar.
