President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination was announced in a statement issued on April 30, 2026, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), and has since been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.
Mr Tegbe, from Oyo State, is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major assignments in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, governance, and investment advisory services.
He is currently the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees bilateral cooperation initiatives aimed at strengthening economic and social development ties between Nigeria and China under the framework of FOCAC.
The statement noted that Mr Tegbe has also been involved in advisory engagements within the power sector, including regulatory and institutional reform processes linked to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
According to the Presidency, his nomination is expected to support ongoing reforms in the power sector, improve system efficiency and grid stability, and help attract sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
